Teaching winter climbing in Corrie Fee

Beth, Elaine and I walked  into Corrie Fee in Glen Clova to look at winter climbing skills. We climbed ‘E Gully’ – which had some good ice poking through the snow and well frozen turf from the corrie floor. This gave us good a climb.

The Corrie had stripped  back a lot overnight, and the freezing level was above the summits all day, despite a forecast of lower freezing level and snow!

There was plenty of soft snow on the tops, but there’s lots of ice on the paths so crampons essential in places.

Forecast looks cooler as the week progresses, but venues like this need a lot cooler conditions for the classics like “Look C” to come into condition.
