Wall Rescue course

I was on a course ran by Glenn Gordon at the weekend hosted at EICA Ratho.

We looked at many of the skills you need to anticipate, prevent and solve problems encountered at indoor walls, and how to pass this on staff you may be responsible for and train.

Both Glenn and I have worked at Ratho for some time, but it was excellent to refresh my skill set and learn from the other attendees. Everyone had great ideas and anecdotes to share.

“John!! I told you the rope wasn’t long enough for Ratho!!

“It’s ok, Glenn will save us!!”. In this case, easily done adding another end of rope to the tail.

Rescuing a climber who has forgotten to clip into an auto-belay (yes, it does happen!)

Assisting a lead climber in problems.

Climbing up to help a stuck climber

Fixing problems on the ground is always preferred.
