Beinn a’ Chaorainn

David and thought we might have a wintery day out,  however the thaw was much more advanced than we thought. Still, some firm snow in places higher up and we needed our ice axes. There is a lot of snow holding in the corries above 850m.

Despite the lack of snow on the route, we had an excellent scramble and bagged a Munro. The rivers are very high with all the snow melt.

[Note -it’s impossible to cross the river in spate until very high up the Glen. In a thaw, come onto the west bank at the road side and battle up the plantation until you can meet the forest road]

There is a lot of snow in the corries, and when it gets colder at the end of the week, the thaw-freeze will make excellent climbing and mountaineering conditions.
