Lee and I had a cracking day on Lochnagar yesterday.
We climbed West Gully which gave a superb route in excellent condition – fat, steep ice on the first pitch then several pitches of easy climbing on good neve and ice.
The weather was ok, but windy and the “white room” on the tops. Snow conditions in the corrie were good despite strong SW winds, and the snow pack was well consolidated.
Teams on Eagle Ridge, Parallel Gully A and buttresses left of Raeburn’s Gully; as well as Pinnacle Gully and the Buttress where we were.
The plumb lines of Douglas Gibson and Polythemus were still looking very thin and need more thaw-freeze.
