Richard, Campbell and I had a stunning day today on the EICA Ratho sea cliff climbing course.
A beautiful, sunny day in amazing surrounds at Fast Castle Head down in Berwickshire.
We climbed on Fast Castle Head itself after an entertaining abseil down to the shore, then an exciting sea-level traverse to get to the base of our climb. The climb – East Arete – had easy moves but had more loose rock than I recall and so felt quite serious. Some bird-watchers at the ruins got a bit of a shock when we appeared over the ramparts!
We heading over to the Souter to have a look, but ended up looking at learning to lead climb on the “Doll Finn” – while porpoises were making themselves known just out to sea.
