Winter Mountaineering

Senen, Declan, Niall and I spent saturday looking at general mountaineering movement skills, then moved onto some self-arrest skills. We then climbed some ice we found on the Coire Cas head-wall and up to point 1141 on bomb-hard neve.

Sunday we climbed Aladidn’s Couloir – again the snow was perfect and we had a superb day out and we also then looked at how to construct some of the snow anchors I had used en route.

Monday, Niall and I climbed the Runnel – well stepped but perfect snow and ice again – although the top of the chimney is a little thin and the ice very hard and brittle. A little snow has fallen during the past three days – but there’s been a yo-yo-ing freezing level and as we left the cories today they buttresses where stripped black.

I was working with Adam Hughes over the this past few days.
