Stob Coire nam Beith

Filed under: Winter Conditions — davy @ 9:24 pm

Andrew was in Glen Coe yesterday and had a bimble up central gully on Stob Coire nam Beith.
He said the snow was mostly good, very stable but on the way down the corrie it was a nightmare as most of the snow was unconsolidated in places and every step was breaking through to the scree and talus underneath.

Lurcher’s Crag

Filed under: Mountaineering, Winter Climbing, Winter Conditions — davy @ 12:20 pm

Simon, Lee and I decided to avoid the crowds and head over to Lurcher’s Crag. We climbed Deerhound Ridge. Depending which side of the ridge you climbed on you got warm, dry rock or rock-solid frozen turf, bomb hard snow and ice! A great day out in alpine conditions. We then abseiled into Quin and climbed the top-two pitches on styro-foam neve and ice. Top day out.
The Corries looked mobbed but in excellent condition.
