Some changes

Filed under: General post — davy @ 4:07 pm

We’ve created an on-line diary http://www.mountainactive.co.uk/booking.htm to make it easier to see when we’re free.

In addition, we’ve updated the blog software to WordPress 2.6 to make things a bit smoother

Enjoy the rest of the summer – despite the deluge at present it’s still possible to get out and do things.

Abandoned climbing

Filed under: Rock Climbing — davy @ 12:39 pm

Andrew, Lee and I went to the Fast Castle Sea cliffs yesteday to try and have an afternoon’s climbing. However the weather was really against us – very heavy, thundery showers at times made the yellow lichen that covered the rock frictionless. We had a go at a very wet and slimey East Arete, but decided that it wasn’t much fun so we backed-off in the middle of a huge down pour and climbed back up the headland. The sun came out but it rained again by the time we made it back to the car. What a week of wet weather!

Climbing at Hawkcraig

Filed under: Rock Climbing — davy @ 11:35 am

Dan and I had a great evening at the Hawkcraig, Aberdour. The tide was in to begin with, but we spent the evening going over anchors, belays and runner placements by climbing up the area around Fish Head arete and breaking it down into small pitches. We then abseiled down the cliff – by now the tide was almost out – looking at setting up retrievable abseils and using a prussik, and then Dan led back out to a chorus of seal song!
