Lakeland Classics

Filed under: Rock Climbing — davy @ 9:15 am

A damp start to the weekend ensured classic rock weekend in Borrowdale. Saturday we climbed Gillercombe Buttress – wet and cold to begin with, but towards mid-afternoon it dried up – consequently we had the route to ourselves but we met a lad and his dad setting off as we packed up.
An evening ticking off VSs at Shepard’s rounded off a good day.
Sunday was dry but cold and we went up to Raven Crag and climbed a very good Crystal Slab, Raven Crag Grooves and then the classic Raven Crag Buttress.

Good weather still ahead

Filed under: General post — davy @ 11:00 am

Dry weather still forecast for this week – the high mountain crags will be drying up nicely. This time of year gives excellent climbing – still some snow around to give an alpine atmosphere. Some photos above from summers gone by!

Drop me a line if interested in mountain cragging, learning to lead or MOTing your ropework for the summer a head – details of what’s on offer here.

Oh – I’ve updated the blog software, so it may run a little better.

Curved Ridge

Stephen on Curved Ridge

Spent the day with the Scottish Widows’ Hillwalking Club bagging the Munros of Buchaille Etive Mor via Curved Ridge – nice and sunny on ascent but a few sharp showers on the ridge between the two Munros. Stephen, Alison, Stephen and I had the ridge to ourselves and we were surprised that we didn’t see any climbers on the Rannoch Wall.
