Breezy Cairngorms Climbing

I’ve been working for Summit Ascent this weekend.

On bright but  breezy Saturday, Dave, Mel and I headed up to Coire na Ciste in the Northern Caringorms. Mel and Dave had never been out  in winter before, never winter climbed, nor donned crampons, so we had a wander to find some hard, scoured snow to learn about walking and climbing in crampons. We then headed to “Ciste Crag” to bag a nice mixed climb – we even found a little ice.

Sunday was another day with brisk winds, whipping up spin drift. We popped in to Coire an t’Sneachada, but the slopes looked too loaded, so we opted for the Twin Ribs area – getting a few short pitches of mixed climbing – Dave and Mel setting up belays and learning to hook and torque with their axes.
